Buried Voices : A Whisper in the Void

“Buried Voices” an upcoming series Wilmien is currently busy with. Working on it when she is an a mental space for this specific series.

Buried Voices is an exploration of identity, memory, and the unseen layers of the self. Within the obscured forms and fractured faces, echoes of silenced truths and forgotten parts emerge—each one whispering stories from the depths of the subconscious. This painting embodies the quiet struggle to be heard within the noise of survival, especially when the voices come from within. It is a visual representation of dissociation, fragmentation, and the resilience of those who carry invisible histories. Even in the darkest void, something always speaks—softly, persistently, hoping to be witnessed and the unspoken truth will be heard.

Joint Exhibition - Fine Art Gallery Namibia

In 2024, I had the honor of participating in a joint exhibition at Fine Art Gallery Namibia, where I showcased a series of Namibian landscape oil paintings. From sweeping desert scenes to sunset rain storms, this collection captured the spirit of Namibia’s wild spaces. Almost all my paintings were sold during the exhibition — a milestone I'm deeply grateful for. You can view featured artworks from this exhibition below.

About the artist

Wilmien Myburgh is a self-taught Namibian artist whose journey began in childhood, when a simple pencil drawing of an apple sparked a lifelong love for visual expression. She was deeply inspired and mentored by her grandmother, Namibian artist Kotie Potgieter, whose work was celebrated long before the digital era. Wilmien developed her craft through passion, exploration, and a profound connection to the landscapes around her.

While she works in a variety of mediums — including soft pastels and charcoal — oil painting remains her true creative home. Her work captures the raw beauty and emotional essence of Namibia, from sunlit dust storms to tranquil rains over distant horizons.
